As my showcase for Act 1 of my musical comes closer, everything slowly finds it's place. I had to figure out how I was going to get my eight plus people to come together and be a team.
From past experience, I always found it hard to get teens to find common ground for the sake of unity.
With that being said, I'm going to have my first practice with everyone on Tuesday hopefully. No, not hopefully, I will.
When they all are ready to go, we'll have less than two weeks to put together act .
I can tell some of the people I have working with me are nervous, and nerves can make people choke. My job as musical director is to make them comfortable, one reason I chose the band room as a place to perform. Less mental pressure than a stage, and in a way, seems a little more modest to me.
One cast member of mine is having a tough time with a song because of the tongue twisters in it, and I completely understand that. As director, I have to find a way to get them comfortable with it, before rehearsal that way the two weeks is more or so, fixing songs up with musicians, and lining it with singers rather than spending time rehearsing music and wasting time.
On a unrelated note, I have to think about how I will advertise, and an Idea hit me, which I'll reveal soon, but it's gonna require some work on my part. Despite everything though, it's all becoming real, and I see it when people who I haven't even told about my showcase are asking, "When is your musical?" or "I'm really excited to go." And for once, I can take a few seconds to think This is gonna be something.
Thinking about the cast member who is scared of tongue twisters, I was thinking of songs they can listen to learn more about how rhythms flow with different styles of music. Perhaps it will help, but despite being the teacher, I don't know what I'm doing fully, but I'll keep taking a leap because one thing about being a leader is being able to shape up so your team doesn't fall, even if it means giving morale you don't have yourself, and in turn, they're morale will boost yours.
