On the 4th of May, my school took a trip to see the show Wicked, a popular prequel telling the story of Elphaba, who slowly becomes the wicked witch of the west. Wicked battles with the question whether or not a person is born wicked or are they made wicked, and through music, acting, and dance, they are able to tell a good story.
Not only did we have a good time watching the show, I, myself, had an outstanding time just being in New York. It felt like a home away from home from the smell of the city to the crazy characters in the streets, from the sounds of blaring cars horns to help you sleep at night to having to yell to the cashiers at McDonald's just so they can hear your order.
I didn't feel like a stranger to this world at all, and that's what I loved about it. I felt more at home there than I ever had here. In a way, I understood Elphaba's perspective on the world and how she felt as if she couldn't fit in though all she ever wanted to do is help people.
All in all, I had an amazing time in NYC and I can't wait to go and not leave.
