Setting up a show

22icastro5

Today is Friday, April 29, 2022, 11:57 eastern standard time, and now it starts. Putting together my presentation. I have until the first of June to put on a sitzprobe of the first Act of my musical.

For those who don't know, a sitzprobe is when the actors sing along with the orchestra pit to the songs of whatever opera or Broadway show they are preforming. Most workshops start with this which leads to a producer taking it off-Broadway.

Luckily, this means I don't have to worry about putting together a full fledged show, with lights, and dancing, and acting, but I still have to have singers, teach them music, and a little lines, which in theory sounds a lot easier than it is. If I want to do this without many flaws, I have to be on it, which for someone like me doesn't come easy.

But I think that's the only way I'll grow. The kid who can't even turn in assignments on time or let alone show up to school, and now I'm going to be directing this stand still musical, and teaching kids how to sings their parts.

I never thought I'd be doing something like this ever in my life, and it's so close in front of me, staring me in the eyes for the taking. I'd be a fool to not be just a bit afraid of not making it. But because of this fear and hope I have in this project I know I will try my hardest to not fall into my old habits. But words are just words. Like Johnathan Larson once said said, "Fear or love, baby, don't say the answer. Actions speak louder than words."

Speaking of John Larson, this project reminds me of an old clip. I would like to share it with you. While this may be my first sitzprobe, my goal one day is to take lead in directing something like this.
